GRE General Test

The GRE General Test is a standardized test to evaluate your academic readiness in today’s demanding graduate school programs, including law and business. The exam assesses the candidates’ verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills. Applicants can register for the GRE General Test based on their preferred time of the year.

GRE General Test Structure/Pattern

The GRE General Test is computer-delivered. It is designed to be test-taker-friendly, letting you skip questions within a section, go back and change answers, and have the flexibility to choose which questions within a section you want to answer first. Divided into 3 sections, Analytical Writing will always be the first, followed by Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning.

Sections in GRE Exam Pattern

Analytic Writing– Consists of 1 section with two tasks, and the allotted time is 60 minutes.

Verbal Reasoning– Consists of 2 sections, each with 40 questions, and the allotted time is 60 minutes.

Quantitative Reasoning– Consists of 2 sections comprising 40 questions, and the allotted time is 70 minutes.

Exam Days Tips

Here are a few important instructions for the candidate taking the GRE:

  • Arrive 30 minutes early before your scheduled reporting time at the PTE academic exam center to avoid last-minute anxiety (or choose to set up your at-home testing space).
  • Make sure you carry your acceptable ID, especially your passport. Without it, you can't take your test.
  • Ensure your credentials match your ID. However, if you have any issues then contact customer support.

Upon arrival, they will do certain things to verify your identity:

  • See your ID and check that the details exactly match your booking.
  • Take a digital photograph of yourself.
  • Ask for your digital signature.
  • Scanning your palm or fingerprints for security purposes.
GRE Results and Score

GRE results are typically available online within 10-15 days from the exam date. Students can access their results through their ETS account. ETS will email you as soon as the test score is available, containing all the instructions on how to view scores online. Candidates can choose to send their results digitally to the colleges and universities via their ETS account.

There are several reasons why your scores can take more days to confirm (to ensure score accuracy) and security (to confirm the test-taker's identity).
